Reverend Darrell Van Pelt

Reverend Darrell Van Pelt was born in Newark, New Jersey to Harold and the late Alice Van Pelt. When he was a teenager his parents moved to Scotch Plains, New Jersey where he attended and graduated from Scotch Plains Fanwood High School. In 1981 Reverend Van Pelt received his undergraduate (B. A.) degree in Religion from Lincoln University in Lincoln, Pennsylvania. After completing his education at Lincoln University he attended the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta, Georgia where he received his Masters of Divinity degree in 1984.

Reverend Van Pelt answered the call and became the Minister at Blandonia Presbyterian Church in Sanford, North Carolina in HIgh Point, North Carolina from 1987 to 1988.

He moved further south and in 1988 through 1989 he served as the Pastor of Greenfield Presbyterian Church in Waterford, Mississippi.

During the years of 1989 through 1995 he was the Pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church in West Point, Mississippi. During the same period of time Reverend Van Pelt committed himself to serve as the Chaplain at Mary Holmes College also in West Point. Mississippi holds special meaning for Reverend Van Pelt. In this small country town God blessed him to find his life partner, Delores Eggerson Dancer. His wife , Delores, the rock of the family, has juggled jobs and parenting with more skills and grace than anyone I know, says, Rev. Van Pelt.

Reverend Van Pelt was called to Elizabeth Presbytery to serve as Pastor of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Plainfield, New Jersey. He served Bethel from January 1996 to March 2004.

Reverend Van Pelt was called by the Charlotte Presbytery to serve as pastor of Davidson Presbyterian Church. He has served Davidson since 2004. This year, Reverend Van Pelt will celebrate twenty-four years in the ministry.

He has fulfilled his commitment to the Davidson community by serving on several committees, including the Committee on Representation, housing Coalition and the Davidson Ministerial Alliance. He is also a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.

Reverend Van Pelt resides in Davidson, North Carolina with his wife, Delores and their two daughters Jenifer and Brittany. Also, the Van Pelt’s have two adult sons that live in Plainfield, New Jersey and one grandson Dylan.
